Working Cats Program at
'Voice for the Animals Founcation'
Los Angeles, CA.
"Juice" one of the Working Cats rescued by VFTA, now 'employed' by The Los Angles Flower Mart
Trapping feral cats who would otherwise have been euthanized at the shelter they then sterilize and vaccinate these cats. This is where most Trap-Neuter-Release Programs end (with the release back to their original territory.)
But Voice for the Animal finds locations that need to solve a problem with rats.  Since it's inception, Working Cats have been successfully placed in the Orchid Mart, Crossroads School campus, and the Los Angeles Police Department Wilshire and Foothill divisions.
"Our program began at the Flower Mart in downtown Los Angeles, where they had a problem with rats since 1909. Through a carefully managed recolonization plan, we brought in feral cats who have been wonderfully successful at keeping the rats away (rats will avoid areas with cats). Scott Yamabe, CEO of South California Growers Association, was skeptical at first, but was soon enthusiastic about the program."

Voice for the Animals Foundation has an inspired group of volunteers. Their programs include a
  • 24 hr. Hotline,
  • Helping Friends-gives seniors, etc. the extra support they need for their companion animals
  • Weekly Cat & Dog Adoptions at the Pacific Palisades Farmer's Market
  • Animal Abuse Prevention
  • Human Education-programs for pre-school up through high school
  • Feral Colonies-maintaining several colonies around Los Angeles, CA.

The Working Cats Program is just one of the many programs that Voice of the Animals Foundation operates.
They have found the solution to feral cat problems in a way in which both animals and humans benefit.
